Howe Library, Wellsville, NY 14895. Arrangements by BRADY FUNERAL HOME, Danville, PA. Mrs. Brown graduated from Bennett High School, Buffalo, NY and attended Syracuse University. Her mother was one of the first women to be licensed in the state of New York as a real estate broker.
Mrs. Brown was licensed to sell real estate in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. She founded Wellsville Realty Co. in the 1950's. The company had seven salespeople and offices in Andover, Alfred, Belmont, and Cuba, NY.
She was still actively involved in selling and appraising real estate until suffering a stroke in October of 1998, at which time she became semi-retired. Mrs. Brown was active in many local and state organizations. During World War I1, she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Red Cross Motor Corps. She was the first Wing Scout leader of the Wellsville Girl Scouts in the 1940's and one of the first women in the country to hold a pilots license.
Mrs. Brown was a Christian Scientist, and served as second reader in the Wellsville Christian Science Society as well as being a member of the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Brown was a life member of the Monday Club, David A. Howe Library.
She was vice -president of the of the League of Women Voters; president of the Ladies Association of the Wellsville Country Club; president, publicity chair, and charter member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; Chair of the Allegany County Cancer Drive; and the Allegany County Heart Association Drive; charter member of the Board of Allegany County Heart Chapter; third vice-president of the Wellsville United Fund; and chairman of the Town of Wellsville Planning Board. She was Publicity Chair of the Wellsville Centennial Celebration. Mrs. Brown was active in the art business, founding the Park Gallery in the 1960's and presented oneperson shows of local artists such as Thomas 'Grady and Jean Grastorf. She commissioned portraits of two of her granddaughters by Buffalo artist, Walter Garver.
Items in her collection have been exhibited in various shows in the Northeast. In connection with her gallery, she traveled three times around the world, visiting such countries as China, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Russia, Europe, Scandinavia, and the Middle East. An avid conservationist, she owned and protected 44 acres on Andover Road outside of Wellsville. In 1997, a sales and gift was finalized for the acres to be used permanently by the Western New York Land Conservancy for Wildlife called "Brown envisioning this as a haven and gateway for migrating water fowl. She was a member of the Brookland Club, Ulysses, PA.
