Police answered a call just after 2 a.m. Thursday to the 2600 block of Virginia, Avenue, where people pointed out Mosley's body on a duplex porch. He had been shot several times.
Mosley was one of three young African-American males shot to death within 24 hours on Wednesday and Thursday. Graham said police have arrested Kinte Brown, 19, of the 2400 block of West Muhammad Ali Boulevard, and charged him with murder in the shooting death of Alfred Dewayne Cardine, 29, who was shot once in the head just before 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at 871 S. 25th St. Brown turned himself in late Thursday night, Graham said.
Police also have a suspect in the shooting death of Musheer Al-Uqdah, 23, whose body was found early Thursday between two buildings in the 1500 block of Earl Avenue, but no one had been arrested last night. Mosley was a student at Seneca High School. Police are seeking eight more people who have been charged as a result of the operation.
Those charged allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover police officer. Police said the 17 people charged are believed to represent the most active dealers in the area. The investigation projects focused and on the New Greenwood Albany housing project area of Jeffersonville. The operation was coordinated by the Southern Indiana Drug Task Force, which is composed of representatives from the Floyd County Sheriff's Department and the New Albany, Jeffersonville, Clarksville and Scottsburg police departments. In the wake of the investigation and arrests, the New Albany police and Housing Authority have instituted high-intensity patrols in the city's housing projects to stem drug trafficking.
The charge of selling cocaine is a Class A felony and carries penalties of a $10,000 fine and a prison sentence Thom Marshall, a Clark County deputy prosecutor. Marshall said the investigation was conducted in cooperation with the Indianapolis Police Department and involved sophisticated technology. An undercover woman officer from the Indianapolis force posed as a cocaine buyer and from May to September made a number of drug buys while sitting in a car wired to make audio and video recordings of the transactions, he said. "This was a great cooperative effort," Marshall said. George Teston, coordinator of the drug task force, said the operation was born out of the complaints police had begun receiving about drug activity in the housing projects, and was a sizable effort.
"This is probably the first time an operation like this has been done in several years," he said. Police said those arrested were three New Albany residents Dexter Thomas Brooks, Leon Lee Brackens and Sheritta Kaye Pratt and six Jeffersonville residents Leroy Minor, Maurice Antonio Robinson, Lynette Peterson, Sean Dale, Gerrelian Jerron Ragland and Dorian Jamal Curry. Their ages and addresses were not available. CRIME REPORTS ROBBERIES 900 block of S. First St.
